August 15: Pro Football Hall of Fame

We HAD to go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for several reasons: 1) it was 15 minutes away. 2) Dan is a big football fan 3). I grew up around football because my dad was a football coach. The experience surprised me. It made me realize how much football is wrapped up in our American culture. It has served as a distraction during hard times, it gives us something to rally around, it unites us and it gets our blood pumping. I was also reminded that sports in general serve to give us a crash course in character building, perseverance, determination, team building, grit and hard work. You take those lessons with you and they get you through everything else in life. Football raises a lot of boys into strong human beings.

  1. So glad you went. I agree with the impact football, and sports in general, have on our culture. It was a huge part of my life as well with my dad coaching baseball and football for over 25 years, 5 brothers (all of who played Pop Warner and three who played college ball) and a mom who served as Pop Warner president. My dad’s impact on our community was very evident at his funeral.
