August 20: Knoebels Amusement Park

Today I stepped back in time by going to the Knoebels Amusement Park which I believe was established back in 1938. They had all of the rides I rode when I was a kid: the round up, tilt a whirl, the log ride, Ferris wheel, roller coasters, haunted house, tea cup, etc. admission was free . They had a large swimming pool and plenty of concessions. I was reminded how fearless I was as a child because I didn’t hesitate to ride any of the rides, even when they made me feel sick.

The J & D Campground is also a blast from the past. It is full of families, enjoying the outdoors, swimming, playing corn hike, riding bikes, sitting in circles talking to one another. Phones are not the center of attention. Many of the campers are seasonal and I can see why. It takes you back in time when life was truly experienced in a simple way. People connect with one another and they enjoy nature.
