August 16th – Allegheny National Forest

Hearts Content Campground- what a treasure! Very much in the wilderness, very few people, deer frolicking. There are trails coming out of the campground that we intend on exploring. Today I was present enough to notice the complex system of roots on the big trees. I know they are deep and wide and they aren’t all hiding under the ground. They are what gives the tree life, and beauty, and height, and they brace the tree to weather storms, strong winds, heavy snow, and sometimes the lack of sunshine. Why aren’t we like trees? We forget to rely on our roots to ground us. We spend all of our efforts on our leaves, branches, and how high we are up in the sky. I love trees- they are my compass.
